How long do the procedures take?
Depending on the choice of procedures, this surgery may take as long as six to seven hours when all procedures are performed at the same time. If the doctor decides it is safer to perform procedures separately, the surgical session will be considerably shorter.
How is a mommy makeover performed?
- Breast Work. A mommy makeover typically starts with breast augmentation using a saline or silicone implant or, in some cases, the patient’s own transferred body fat. The choice is based on the patient’s preference as well as the width and height of the breast. If the patient has a loose skin with low hanging nipples, the individual may desire a breast lift, known medically as mastopexy. The procedure lifts the breast on top of the implant and centers the nipple over the implant. Please refer to our breast augmentation and/or breast lift pages for further detail on these surgeries.
- Body Contouring and Abdominal Work. The next step is to begin the body contouring portion which usually includes work in the abdominal area. Sometimes this begins with liposuction of the flanks and abdomen. The fat that is harvested is sometimes transferred to the buttocks for gluteal augmentation (aka, a Brazilian butt lift).
While some patients may be happy with results from liposuction alone, many others desire an abdominoplasty to remove low hanging skin and tighten the abdominal muscles. We ask that you refer to our abdominoplasty and liposuction pages for further information on abdominal contouring.
