What is a Mommy Makeover?

It’s normal for women to experience changes to their bodies while going through motherhood. After childbirth, the abdominal muscles may get loose due to the pressure the baby can exert; that pressure can create a permanent separation of the abdominal muscles as well as cause loose skin. There may also be a loss of volume to the breasts, as well as sagging skin and tissue in the abdominal area.

A mommy makeover is a collection of procedures designed to address loose skin, volume loss, and/or contour irregularities of the breasts and abdomen. The surgery will often involve a breast augmentation (with an implant or fat transferred from elsewhere in the body), possibly a breast lift. as well as liposuction with or without a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). Many patients also opt for fat grafting to the buttocks for a fuller look. This is the procedure popularly known as the Brazilian butt lift.

How do patients prepare for a Mommy Makeover?

  • A preoperative clearance is needed before surgery to ensure patients are in appropriate physical condition for the procedure. Contraindications for the surgery include anemia, infection, and/or severe cardiac/pulmonary disease.

  • We ask that patients do not smoke for four weeks before surgery. If they use that as an opportunity to quick smoking for good, that’s even better

  • If a patient is actively losing weight, they should hold off on surgery until the weight is stable for at least six months.
